Calefa provides also solutions to generate electricity from waste heat. These solutions are based on ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) technology, which is increasingly utilised around the world. It uses the refrigerants features to vaporise at low temperatures, which enables electricity production from even less than +100 °C heat input.

The share of electric power generated from heat power depends largely on the temperature of the heat input. Typically it is between 7 and 25%. This is, however, directly usable energy and can result in a significant efficiency improvement in the process. Electric power can be between 10kW and 1,000kW.

In many cases the best results are achieved by utilising waste heat in both electricity generation through ORC systems and heat generation through compression or absorption heat pumps.
